What this does: On a phone or tablet, Trakref lets you scan an equipment barcode to find an asset instead of searching for it by hand. You can scan from the Inventory table to filter to the matching asset, or scan in the Create Service Event form to auto-select the equipment you worked on. The scanner matches the barcode against the asset's Tag Number or Serial Number.
Before you start: Use a phone or tablet (iOS Safari 16+ or Android Chrome 120+) logged in to Trakref. The SCAN feature appears on mobile and tablet only. The asset you scan must have a Tag Number or Serial Number saved on its record. For the Service Event flow, you need permission to create Service Events. If a barcode won't read, you can always type the tag instead.
Scan from the Inventory table
Open the Inventory table. From the menu, go to Inventory → Inventory.
The Inventory table on mobile — Columns, Filters, and the new Scan control sit above the list.
Tap Scan. Above the table, tap Scan (the barcode icon).
Allow camera access. When your device asks to use the camera, tap Allow.
Tap Allow when your device asks to use the camera.
Point the camera at the barcode. The scanner opens with a green targeting box and the prompt “Point at the asset barcode.” Line the barcode up inside the box.

Review the result. On a successful read, the Inventory table filters to the asset whose Tag Number or Serial Number matches the barcode.

Scan in a Service Event
Start a Service Event. Open an open work order and tap Create Service Event at the top.
Tap Scan next to Equipment Worked On. Equipment Worked On is the first field on the form. Tap the Scan (barcode) icon beside it.

Allow camera access, then scan. Tap Allow on the camera prompt and point the camera at the equipment barcode.
Confirm the appliance. On a successful read, Equipment Worked On auto-selects the matching appliance and its system details appear below.

Finish the form. Tap outside the field and complete the rest of the Service Event form as usual.
If a barcode won't read
Both flows fall back to typing. The scanner shows “Couldn't read a barcode, try again, or type the tag to search.” Typing the tag runs the same lookup as a scan, so you can always find the asset by hand.
Troubleshooting
“No matching equipment found” / no results. The scanned or typed value didn't match an eligible asset. Confirm the asset has the correct Tag Number or Serial Number saved (Inventory Detail → Edit), then try again.
Inventory scan with no matching results.
Service Event scan with no matching results.
“Unable to access camera. Please check settings to confirm permission granted.” Camera permission was denied. Use Try again, or type the tag instead — the standard search still works.
The Scan control isn't showing. Scanning is available on phones and tablets only; it is hidden on desktop. Open Trakref on a mobile device.
Nothing comes up after a scan. The asset needs a Tag Number or Serial Number saved on its record. Without one, there is nothing for the scan to match.
