What this does: Reverse Retrofit is the correction path for a retrofit that was recorded in error. It removes the new post-retrofit asset and restores the original asset to Normal Operation with its original material type, charge capacity, and gas weight. The original asset's earlier service history is preserved — only the retrofit service event itself is deleted.
When to use it: Reverse a retrofit when the wrong material type was selected, the wrong amount of refrigerant was recorded as recovered or installed, or the retrofit was applied to the wrong asset. A retrofit changes and links both the original and new assets, it cannot be fixed by editing the service event — it must be reversed and re-entered.
Permissions: Reverse Retrofit requires a Tenant Administrator. A Technician Manager can record a retrofit but cannot reverse one. If you need a retrofit reversed and do not have administrator access, contact your Trakref administrator.
Before you reverse — capture any newer records. If service records were added to the new post-retrofit asset after the retrofit was completed, write down their details first. That asset is removed when you reverse, and those records will need to be re-entered on the correct system afterward.
How to Reverse a Retrofit
Step 1. Open the post-retrofit service event. A retrofit creates two service events. You must start from the one for the new active asset — the one showing Active / Normal Operation with the new refrigerant. Open the work order and click that service event's ID.
Started from the wrong one? If you open the original asset's service event instead, an information bar reads “This asset is retrofitted. To reverse the retrofit, go to the new active asset's retrofit.” Return to the work order and open the other service event.

Step 2. Confirm you are on the right record. The post-retrofit service event shows an information bar reading “This event is completed and no longer editable. To make edits, perform a reverse retrofit,” and a Reverse Retrofit button appears in the top right.

Step 3. Click Reverse Retrofit. A confirmation dialog asks “You are about to reverse retrofit #<service event>. Are you sure you want to do this?”
Step 4. Select Yes to confirm. Choose No if you want to cancel and leave the retrofit in place. Check the service event number in the dialog before confirming — the reversal cannot itself be undone.

Step 5. Confirm the reversal succeeded. A message reads “Retrofit successfully reversed,” and the post-retrofit service event's status changes to Deleted.
Where you land: After reversing, you may remain on the now-deleted post-retrofit service event. This is expected. Navigate back to the Work Order Detail page to continue working — the deleted record is no longer active even though the page is still reachable.
Step 6. Re-enter the retrofit correctly. The work order is left with no active service events. Re-open or update the work order as needed, then record a new retrofit with the correct details. See the companion guide, How to Create a Retrofit Service Event. Re-enter any service records you captured before reversing, on the correct asset.
What to expect after reversing
- The new post-retrofit asset is removed. It no longer appears in inventory or in the original asset's related assets.
- The original asset returns to Normal Operation with its original material type, charge capacity, and gas weight restored.
- The original asset's earlier service history is preserved. Only the retrofit service event is deleted; everything recorded before the retrofit remains.
- Both retrofit service events are marked Deleted, leaving the work order with no service events. You can then record the corrected retrofit against it.
Troubleshooting
- There is no Reverse Retrofit button. Most often this is a permissions matter — the action requires a Tenant Administrator. Confirm too that you are on the post-retrofit service event for the new active asset, not the original asset's event, since the button only appears there.
- An information bar points you to the new active asset. You are on the original asset's service event. Go back to the work order and open the service event for the asset showing Active / Normal Operation.
- You cannot edit the retrofit instead of reversing it. This is by design. A retrofit changes two linked assets, so editing the service event alone would leave the systems inconsistent. Reversing and re-entering is the supported correction path.
- Records added after the retrofit are missing. Service records entered against the post-retrofit asset are removed with that asset. Re-enter them on the correct system after you have recorded the corrected retrofit.
- The original asset still will not accept new records. Check whether a disbursement date is still set on the asset from the original retrofit. If it is, clear it so record-keeping can resume, or contact Trakref Support.
